It's been ages since I've posted a smoothie/ shake recipe, so today is all about creamy, thick and super yummy chocolate peanut butter and banana shake. And trust me, you do not want to miss this one, as this one is DA BOMB.
Firstly, in case if you didn't know, today is the Autumn Equinox. So today, the day and the night are equal and as of tomorrow, the days in Northern Hemisphere will be getting shorter...and that itself is devastating to me. Because I'm a Summer child. And because waking up and going to sleep in a darkness sucks. Another month, and the clocks will be going back again. And whoever came up with this ridiculous idea, should be punished...A LOT.
So you would think that today's recipe should be more seasonal, since Autumn is officially here, but I was so upset about end of Summer, that chocolate fix was needed. And as mentioned earlier, it's been ages since I posted smoothie recipe (in case if you missed them, you can check out my Melon Smoothie with Mint or Blackberry and Cherry Smoothie ), so about time I do something about that.
Technically, this is not a smoothie, but a shake, as it's so creamy and thick. The classic combination of banana and peanut butter works wonderfully together, and adding a chocolate flavor to that combo is just taking it to the next level. It's so filling, I'm quite happy to have it for breakfast and I know it will keep me going for good few hours. Protein powder is totally optional, but I think it makes it even creamier and smoother when added.
If you are chocolate addict, you will not want to skip the topping! Dark chocolate sauce, which is made by mixing melted dark chocolate with a bit of coconut oil and maple syrup. Melted chocolate on top = heaven. Throw some crushed walnuts or hazelnuts and cocoa nibs, and you have yourself guaranteed foodgasm.
This banana peanut butter banana shake is a guaranteed mood lifter, so if you having one of these days when it's best for everyone to stay away from you, go and do some blending, count to 10 (or don't) and start sipping on this bad boy. There is no way you will stay grumpy after that!

Banana Peanut Butter Chocolate Shake
- 2 large frozen bananas
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
- ½ tablespoon chia seeds
- 1 tablespoon smooth peanut butter
- 2 cups almond milk
- 3 tablespoon vegan protein powder optional
- Blend all the ingredients in a high speed blender until smooth.
- Top it up with crushed hazelnuts, melted dark chocolate and cocoa nibs (optional).
Please note that all my recipes are developed and tested in metric grams. I recommend that you use digital scales for a more accurate results. I have provided a conversion to US customary in the recipe but please note that I haven’t tested using this method.
